The bartenders can sometimes be fewer than necessary and sometimes it does take a bit to get a beer (at least on a Friday and Saturday night), but the place is laid-back enough that it's not that big of a deal. It's a little smoky, which I'm not in love with, but the bar makes up for it with (from what I remember) $9 pitchers of Miller Lite and $12 pitchers of DosXX. The place reminds me of Cheers - it seems like everyone knew everyone. Supposedly one of the most haunted spots in San Antonio, this lounge bar at the St Anthony Hotel is committed to paying homage to spirits of the past. Second guy is a tall drink of water, a black cowboy complete with boots, hat, and bolo tie, who can sing a MEAN George Strait and sits in the same spot at the bar each time. There are a few patrons I see every time I go that are karaoke rock stars: one guy, maybe named Mike, who is an older guy and reminds me of a cleaned-up and shaven Kenny Rodgers. Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday nights, starting around 10pm, it's my own little slice of paradise. ![]() I'm going to be honest - I go for the karaoke. Just off the beaten path among San Antonio dive bar options, Bang Bang Bar follows in the footsteps of bars that have inhabited this windowless outspot since 1938. Thats why wants to know what hidden gems San Antonio has to offer. From the outside, you wouldn't be able to tell it was a bar because it was graffiti'd to hell and the door looked like it was just about to fall off (but it was fine, just made to. The place sunk most of the way underground, and you opened a door and went down some stairs to the bar. I lived just down the street from it for several years before venturing in a few months ago. The Bang Bang Bar is a cocktail, and music spot filled with a mishmash of old furniture, plus arcade games and a pool table. I recall a more-or-less hidden bar somewhere in San Antonio.
